La friandise : un outil clé dans la relation avec son chien

The treat: a key tool in your relationship with your dog

Back-to-school season marks the return of daily walks, regular commutes, and little routines shared with our dogs. It's precisely during these moments that a small gesture often holds more importance than we imagine: offering a treat.

Beyond pleasure, what is the true role of treats in the human-dog relationship?

We asked Chloé Fesch, a dog trainer specializing in positive reinforcement, founder of Nature de Chien and author of numerous books.

Positive reinforcement: learning without coercion

Positive reinforcement is a simple philosophy: we value good behaviors rather than punishing bad ones.

In concrete terms, it's not about "punishing when things go wrong," but about rewarding when things go well.

The result?

  • The dog learns faster because they are motivated and engaged.

  • The relationship with our dog is strengthened: the reward becomes a common language, based on trust and shared pleasure.

Conversely, coercive training (punishment, intimidation, physical restraint) often generates fear, stress, or even aggression. And it damages the bond of complicity that should unite a dog with its human.

Treats: a communication and motivation tool

In positive reinforcement training, a treat is much more than a delicacy:

  • It's an immediate reward, which allows the dog to instantly associate good behavior with a positive outcome.

  • It's a universal communication tool: each treat becomes a "yes, that's exactly what you should have done!"

  • It's a source of motivation: dogs, like us, like to be encouraged and valued.

A simple "good job" or a pat can be enough in some situations, but the treat remains the most effective tool to teach, reinforce, and maintain behaviors.

Choosing the right treats: a matter of health

Not all treats are created equal. Many industrial products still contain:

  • Artificial additives such as colorings and preservatives

  • Sugars or saturated fats

  • Poor quality animal proteins or by-products

The result: risk of obesity, digestive problems, decreased vitality.

As with daily food, choosing a healthy and digestible treat, rich in quality protein, is essential so that the dog learns without endangering its health.

Les Pépites Delamour: the next-generation treat

This is exactly what guided us in the creation of Les Pépites with Dr. Eric Charles, our veterinary expert in animal nutrition:

  • A 100% natural recipe composed of 90% fresh meat (chicken, duck or beef) and 10% superfoods. Nothing more.

  • An ultra-smart and portable packaging, resealable and refillable, to slip into your pocket or bag for every walk.

  • An "air-dried" manufacturing method, which preserves nutrients but above all results in a non-greasy and odorless treat that doesn't stick to your fingers.

Les Pépites are not just delicious healthy, natural and hypoallergenic treats: they are designed as a true educational and relational tool, to make life easier for owners and strengthen the bond with their dogs.

Ready for back-to-school!

The treat is a powerful educational and emotional lever: it motivates, it values, and it builds a relationship between a human and their dog, based on shared pleasure.

Provided it is chosen wisely, it becomes a daily ally for both dog and human.

With Les Pépites, you now have the perfect treat in your pocket: healthy, practical, and a great way to bond. Thank you, Delamour!
